Lutheran Brethren Church of Nampa, Idaho
Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.  Therefore go and make
disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them
to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
Matthew 28:18-20 (NIV)

Our Beliefs and Practices
  1. We believe that the Bible is God’s Word and is the only source and guide for faith, doctrine, and life.
  2. We accept the Lutheran Church’s Confession of Faith as being in conformity with God’s Word.
  3. We believe that a congregation is an assembly of believing Christians where the Word of God is preached in truth and purity
and where the Sacraments are administered in accordance with the Lord’s institution.
  4. Recognizing the clear distinction made in the Scriptures between the children of God and the children of the world, we
believe in a personal experience of salvation in Christ.
  5. We conduct our services using a simple order of worship where the sermon, based on the Word of God, occupies the most
    prominent place in the service.
  6. We encourage the use of lay persons in spreading the Gospel and furthering the work of the kingdom of God.
  7. We seek through Sunday school, confirmation instruction, Bible camps, Lutheran Brethren Youth Fellowship, and Lutheran
Brethren Youth Ministries to teach our youth to be followers of Jesus Christ.
  8. We believe in a strongly evangelistic emphasis and, with other congregations, sponsor mission work in Canada, the United
States, Cameroon, Chad, Japan, and Taiwan.
  9. We are aware of the value of Christian education and, with other congregations, sponsor Lutheran Brethren Seminary,
Lutheran Center for Christian Learning, and Hillcrest Lutheran Academy, Fergus Falls, Minnesota.
  10. Finally, we are actively interested in giving persons of all ages an opportunity to enter into a personal relationship with Jesus
    Christ.

Our History
In 1968 a small group of concerned Christians began to fellowship in home Bible Study and Prayer Meetings.  The first pastor to
visit these friends was Rev. Don Brue on October 24, 1968.  Pastor Brue was then President of the Pacific District, Church of the
Lutheran Brethren.  Rev. Brue spoke at an informal fellowship meeting at Provident Federal Savings and Loan in Nampa.  Later,
Rev. Harland Helland, Director of Home Missions for the Church of the Lutheran Brethren held his first fellowship meetings on April
10th and 29th, 1969.

In July of 1969 the hopes, wishes and prayers of this small but dedicated group became a reality.  This small fellowship, later to
become the Lutheran Brethren Church of Nampa, held its first Worship Service in the Chapel of the Shepherd Funeral Home in
Nampa.  Rev. David Langager spoke at the July 20 and 27 services.  Later, on August 10, 1969, the first Worship Service was held
in the Church of God (7th Day) with Rev. Don Brue speaking.

Under the able guidance and direction of Pastor Harland Helland, pastors were scheduled for regular Worship Services and a
temporary organization was established.  A letter of call was sent to Rev. Arlow Hushagen in October 1969 to serve as pastor of
this young congregation.  The call was accepted and the Hushagens moved to Nampa on January 1, 1970.

Early in 1970 the parsonage and the two acres of property were acquired, one given.  Construction of a new church began on
August 1971.  The first Worship Service was held on February 27, 1972.  The formal Dedication Service for the church and
parsonage was held October 1, 1972.

In 1970, a constitution was drawn up and approved.  In accordance with this constitution the Lutheran Brethren Church of Nampa
was organized April 1970.  The congregation was accepted as a member congregation of the Church of the Lutheran Brethren at its
annual Synodical Meeting in June 1970.

Pastor Hushagen resigned in May 1977 and moved to a new Home Mission work in Calgary, Alberta in August 1977.  Pastor Wes
Johanson began his pastorate in Nampa on August 28, 1977.

Pastor Harold Tjelta and his wife Eileen currently serve the congregation.
